We welcome you to the official website Vladivostok State Medical University (VSMU)
VSMU is the young and dynamically growing university.
Its history began in the last century, when Primorsky krai was in need of the influx of people and actively inhabited by peasants from the western regions of the Russian Empire since the late 19th.

Developing industry, agriculture, construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway required more labor. Difficulties of sea and land transport, poor living conditions of immigrants were the main reasons of plague, cholera, smallpox, typhoid.

Qualified medical personnel were required for the treatment of these diseases, but military doctors provided medical care to the population. Vladivostok Naval Hospital was the only medical institution in the city, which provided medical care both sailors and civilians for first 15 years of its being. Scientific Society of the research of the South Ussuri, Society of the research of the Amur region, the Vladivostok Society of navy doctors were organized by the doctors of this hospital.

The Red Cross Society began training nurses, and for the Russian-Japanese War, with the outbreak of hostilities, that society trained more than 70 nurses.  

The first faculty of medicine was opened at Far Eastern National University and 100 students were enrolled only in 1956. After 2 years the Russian government allowed to open Vladivostok Medical Institute. The institute grew and developed, trained and educated young professionals, and it became the institution of the first category for a short time, and soon the university.

Today the Medical University is a multidisciplinary scientific and educational institution. There is an internship, ordinatura, graduate school, the system of pre-university and post-graduate system in the university, that provide an opportunity to obtain any medical profession.

A lot of things had been done in the past, more things have to be done in the future. We are sure that our students will raise the prestige of the university.
